  • The second call for Security Research (call identifier FP7-SEC-2009-1) was published on the 3rd September 2008, with deadline for the submission of the proposals on the 4th December 2008. The indicative budget is EUR 117.9 million.

All relevant documents can be downloaded at: http://cordis.europa.eu/fp7/dc/index.cfm?fuseaction=UserSite.FP7DetailsCallPage&call_id=137

The Security Research Call 2 will include important topics that were not covered sufficiently well in the first call in 2007, and topics that have already been indicated in the first Work programme 2007 as priorities for the Security Research Call 2.

44 proposals were selected in the first call, for an EC contribution of € 156 million. A brief summary of the first 10 projects already contracted, and the list of participants, can be found on the FP7 Cordis database http://cordis.europa.eu/search/index.cfm?fuseaction=proj.advSearch (selecting in the list of programme acronyms: FP7-SECURITY).

Considering the Security theme’s objective of increasing the competitiveness of industry, the broad involvement of SMEs in consortia is highly encouraged.

  • Info Day Security, Brussels (Belgium), 15th September 2008

  • In view of the 2nd Security Call, published on the 3rd September 2008, the Commission organises a one-day information event in Brussels on the 15th September 2008. The aim of this event is to disseminate information on the research areas open in this Call for Proposals on Security within the FP7 Cooperation Programme, to give details about the main legal and procedural conditions, and to answer any questions. Participating in the event may also help make contact with other potential proposers and possible project partners.

  • Security Research Conference 2008, Paris (France), 29–30th September 2008

  • The third Security Research Conference (SRC’08) will take place in Paris on 29 and 30 September 2008 under the auspices of the French Presidency of the European Union.

The main objective of SRC’08 will be to showcase the concrete implications of security research for citizens on the one hand and to stress the need to bring together research and innovation offers and security needs and the market on the other hand.

SRC’08 will also enable participants to prepare for EU calls for proposals related to Security research through information sessions organised by the European Commission and a brokerage session. This latter, co organised by the European Commission and the European National Contact Point Networks on Security research (SEREN), will take place on the 29th of September 2008 and has for aim to enable an efficient exchange of information between organisations presenting proposal ideas and interested participants.
